President al-Bashir Visits ICC Member State Chad

Despite having two arrest warrants against him for crimes against humanity, genocide, and war crimes, Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir was greeted warmly upon his visit to Chad last week. President al-Bashir, greeted with a red carpet, was attending a summit of the Community of Sahel-Saharan states, joined by twelve other African heads of state.

Over the past seven weeks, Syria has been locked in a cycle of protest and suppression that had lead to an estimated 1,000 deaths.

Syria: Arab Civil Society Organizations Press the UNSC

The suppression of anti-government demonstrators across Syria continues apace. Earlier this week, Syrian human rights organizations reported that at least 1,000 civilians have died during the nine-weeks of government violence.

Policy Conference Call Tomorrow, January 27th

At noon tomorrow (January 27), the Save Darfur Coalition, Genocide Intervention Network and the Enough Project will host a joint conference call on Sudan.  The call will be focused on the recent southern Sudanese referendum and feature Enough’s Laura Heaton, Save Darfur’s Daniel Sullivan and Human Rights Watch’s Jehanne Henry.

Civilians Possibly At Risk in Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast)

GI-NET/SDC is closely watching the developing situation in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), which has deteriorated since we last spoke of it on Friday. We are particularly concerned with the growing reports of civilians being violently targeted across the country.
